"Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

hello! you posted on my blog a few weeks ago about civil war dress patterns and i'm here with answers! :)
ReplyDeletethe patterns we use are "past patterns"...for the bodices we use #701, #702 & #801 the most. there are pretty much 3 basic bodice styles: gathered, fan front, and fitted. from those you can choose from several different types of sleeves: bishop w/ undersleeve, gathered, puff, puff w/ ruffle, loose, coat, cap, cap w/puff, shirred...honestly the variations are endless. my friend atlanta has drafted quite a few of her own patterns that I usually use, myself.
as for skirts, we cut 3 panels the desired length (adding a few inches for hems, gathers, etc) when we do a work dress that won't be worn with a hoop or 4 panels for day/ball dresses that are worn WITH a hoop. from there, you attach the panels on the sides, hem, gather, and attach the skirt to the bodice. any sorts of trim can be added to the skirt prior to gathering.
i have no idea how much sense all of that makes, but feel free to post another comment on my blog, or send me an email: sewinginthepast[at]hotmail[dot]com and i'll answer any other questions you might have!
hope this helps!
